Getting from Indianapolis International Airport to your final destination is straightforward once you know where to go. Almost every ground transportation option at IND — taxis, rideshares, rental cars, scheduled buses, hotel courtesy vehicles, and shared-ride or limousine services — is handled through the Ground Transportation Center (GTC), located on the first floor of the Terminal Garage directly across from the terminal building. Follow the “Ground Transportation” signs after baggage claim and you’ll be there in minutes.

If you need help finding indianapolis airport ground transportation options, taxis, and shuttles, here is the guide.

Taxis at IND: Where to Find Them

Taxi service is available at the curb on the lower level of the terminal, just outside of Baggage Claim. Look for the Taxi Station and press the green call button to hail a cab — licensed airport taxis operate around the clock. A minimum charge applies to all fares from the airport, regardless of distance (the airport’s taxi page currently lists a $20 minimum). Taxis are the simplest option if you want a direct ride without an app, and drivers can quote rates for trips outside the Indianapolis area.

Buses: IndyGo Route 8 and Scheduled Bus Service

Public transportation from IND is operated mainly by IndyGo. Route 8 runs along Washington Street, connecting the airport with downtown Indianapolis and several neighborhoods. Service runs roughly every 30 minutes during the day, and the standard fare is currently listed at $1.75 per ride — making it by far the cheapest way into the city, though the trip takes around 30–40 minutes depending on traffic and stops. Plan for an early start if you have a morning flight, since evening service winds down earlier than taxi or rideshare options.

Scheduled bus service from the airport is also available to the greater Indianapolis area and university towns, including Ball State University (Muncie), Indiana University (Bloomington), and Purdue University (Lafayette/West Lafayette). These are useful alternatives if you’re headed to a campus rather than downtown.

Hotel Shuttles and Shared Rides

Hotels within about a five-mile radius of IND offer courtesy vehicles for guests, and the hotel shuttle pickup zone is in the Ground Transportation Center. If your hotel advertises a free airport shuttle, confirm the pickup procedure with the front desk — many hotels run shuttles on a schedule or by request, so calling ahead saves a long wait at the curb. Shared-ride and personal luxury limousine (black car) services are also available in the Ground Transportation Center, located on the first floor of the garage as you exit the terminal.

Tips for a Smooth Exit from IND

Before you land, decide which option fits your trip. Heading downtown with light luggage? The IndyGo Route 8 bus is hard to beat on price. Traveling with family, lots of bags, or a tight schedule? A taxi or rideshare from the Ground Transportation Center will get you moving fastest. Staying at a nearby hotel? Check whether your hotel runs a free shuttle before you pay for anything — the pickup zone is right there in the GTC. And if someone is picking you up in a personal vehicle, they should wait in the free Cell Phone Lot until you call, then pull to the arrivals curb for active loading only.

Make Your IND Journey Easier with AirportGo

AirportGo is built for the whole airport journey — before, during, and after your flight. Before you fly, use the packing checklist and trip tasks to get organized. During your trip, search the directory for gates, food, restrooms, and ATMs, get step-by-step walking navigation through the terminal, check TSA checkpoint times, and set a parking reminder so your spot is saved. After you land, the find-my-car feature uses your saved parking photo and location to walk you back to your vehicle. It even works offline, so a weak airport signal won’t slow you down. The app is available now on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
