Indianapolis International Airport’s midfield terminal was built to be easy to move through. The single Col. H. Weir Cook Terminal has two concourses — A and B — joined behind security, with wide, level walkways, elevators, escalators, and moving walkways throughout. If you use a wheelchair, travel with a mobility aid, or simply need step-free routes, getting from curb to gate at IND is straightforward. The airport was even recognized by the FAA with a 2020 Civil Rights Advocate and Partner Award for its work serving passengers with disabilities.
If you need help finding indianapolis airport accessibility services, wheelchairs, and elevators, here is the guide.

Requesting Wheelchair Assistance
Wheelchair assistance at IND is provided by your airline, not the airport, so the key step is to request it when you book your flight — the earlier the better. Most airlines let you add the request online or by phone, and the service is free. Confirm the request when you check in and again with the gate agent, since needs can change on the day. An airline attendant will meet you and help you from check-in or the curb through security to your gate and onto the aircraft, including during connections. If you bring your own wheelchair, it can be checked at the gate and returned to you at the aircraft door on arrival. Mobility aids — wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, crutches, and canes — are all permitted through the TSA checkpoints at IND.
Elevators, Escalators, and Moving Around the Terminal
The terminal was built with 23 elevators, 10 escalators, and 10 moving walkways, so step-free routes are the norm rather than the exception. Both concourses are about 1,300 feet long and 100 feet wide, with level floors and plenty of room to maneuver. Concourse A and Concourse B connect behind security, so you can move between them without being re-screened. The Terminal Garage connects to the terminal by an enclosed pedestrian bridge with elevators and escalators, and escalators also link the ticketing hall with baggage claim. Wherever you are headed — gates, restrooms, dining, or ground transportation — an elevator route is available.
Sensory Rooms and Other Accessibility Services
IND has two sensory rooms for travelers who need a quiet, low-stimulation place to decompress. Room 04A.304 is on Concourse A, across from Harry & Izzy’s near the International Arrivals area, and Room 03B.302.A is on Concourse B, across from Gate B5 near Tinker Coffee. Other services include the Aira visual interpreting service for blind and low-vision travelers (call 1-800-835-1934), accessible restrooms, Braille signage, TTY/TDD telephones, visual paging, and accessible parking. If you need an accommodation not listed by the airport, call 317-487-5129 and ask for the ADA Coordinator. For help with the screening process itself, TSA Cares can arrange assistance at the checkpoint.
Accessible Parking and Curbside Drop-Off
Accessible parking is available in the Terminal Garage, which sits across from the terminal with elevator access on every level. One simple tip: drop passengers and luggage at the curb first, then park — the driver can use the curbside without paying a parking fee and rejoin the group afterward. Press-button emergency and assistance phones are located throughout the parking facilities if you need help.

Make Your IND Journey Easier with AirportGo
AirportGo is built for the whole airport journey, not just the gate. Before your flight, use the packing checklist and trip tasks so nothing gets forgotten. During your trip, search the airport directory for gates, food, restrooms, and ATMs, follow step-by-step walking navigation to your gate, and keep an eye on TSA checkpoint times. After you land, the find-my-car feature uses your saved parking photo and location to walk you right back to your vehicle. It even works offline without internet, so a spotty connection won’t slow you down. The app is available now on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
