Lost something at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)? Start with the one fact that simplifies everything: the airport’s Lost and Found is the main Information Desk on the Ground level near Door 8, and the phone number for both general information and Lost and Found is the same, (412) 472-3525. Checked bags are the big exception, since those belong to your airline. This guide sorts out who handles what and how to file a claim.

The Airport Lost and Found: Door 8 Information Desk

For items lost in the terminal, at security, in parking areas, or on a parking shuttle, the airport’s Lost and Found at the Ground level Information Desk near Door 8 is your stop. The desk’s published hours are 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. (One page of the airport’s site lists the weekday pattern without mentioning Sunday; the Sunday-to-Friday schedule is the one the airport’s newsroom and lost and found releases publish.) You can also file a report online at any time through the Lost and Found link in the airport’s FAQs: the system PIT launched in August 2025 (branded “We Got You”) takes 24/7 online claims with shipment and tracking options, and it carried into the new terminal. If you are still at the airport, go in person first and file online as the backup record; the desk staff can check the day’s turned-in items on the spot, which no web form can do.

Lost Bags and Plane Items Go to the Airline

Anything involving checked luggage, delayed, damaged, or missing bags, plus items left on the aircraft, at a gate podium, or at a ticket counter, is handled by the airline directly, not the airport desk. For a bag that did not arrive, go to your airline’s baggage service desk by the claim area before leaving the airport and file there; keep your bag tag. Our PIT baggage claim guide explains the claim hall and this process in more detail.

Other Places Things Hide

Left something at the TSA checkpoint? Items surrendered or left at screening are handled through TSA’s lost and found channels; TSA comments are at 1-866-289-9673. Left something in a rental car? Call the rental company (the eight on-airport brands are listed in our PIT rental car guide). In a taxi, shuttle, or on the 28X bus? Taxis are arranged through their operators, and Pittsburgh Regional Transit customer service is 412-442-2000. The parking office (LAZ Parking, 412-472-5050) can help with items left in lots or on parking shuttles. Acting fast matters: describe the item, where you last had it, and your flight details in the report.

Before You Travel: Prevention

Put a name and phone number inside every bag, not just on the tag, photograph your checked luggage and its contents before you fly, and keep medications, documents, and electronics in your carry-on. If you are meeting someone and the search will take a while, the greeter-side logistics are in our PIT arrivals guide.

Plan Your Trip with AirportGo

AirportGo is built for the whole airport journey, before, during, and after your flight. AirportGo does not offer an indoor map of Pittsburgh International yet, so at PIT the app is your trip prep companion: record your bag tag and a photo of your luggage in your trip tasks, build a packing checklist, and keep key phone numbers with your flight details. At airports where AirportGo maps already exist, the same app also guides you indoors from the door to your gate.
