Traveling through Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) with children is manageable when you know where the family-friendly stops are. CLE is a single-terminal airport with three concourses, so once you’re through security, you can’t get lost between buildings — but a long walk to a high C gate with a tired toddler is its own challenge. Here’s how to plan the trip.

Mother’s Room: Concourse B, Across from Gate B1

CLE has a dedicated Mother’s Room for nursing parents, located in Concourse B across from gate B1. The suite has two private nursing rooms plus a common area where well-behaved children can sit and wait; each space has comfortable seating and an outlet, and the common area includes a sink and changing table. For privacy, the suite is monitored by security camera — to enter, dial Operations on the courtesy phone next to the door, and staff will check the camera before granting access. Burn Off Energy: The United Club Kids Play Area

CLE’s United Club in Concourse C is one of only three United Clubs in the country with a dedicated kids’ play area, according to The Points Guy. If you’re flying United with eligible lounge access, it’s one of the best spots at CLE for children. Day passes are sometimes available when the club isn’t at capacity — ask at the desk near the entrance between gates C14 and C16.

Family Restrooms and Stroller Access

Family restrooms with extra space for strollers and a second adult are available throughout the terminal. Elevators connect the ticketing level, the concourses, and baggage claim, so strollers never need to ride an escalator. Every TSA checkpoint is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible, and security will typically let families with young children use the same lanes as everyone else — children under 12 may keep their shoes on in the standard screening lanes.

For a deeper look at navigating the airport with a stroller or wheelchair, see our accessibility guide.

Kid-Friendly Food at CLE

Once past security, the strongest family dining options are in Concourse C: Panini’s Bar & Grill (near gate C4) serves kid-friendly sandwiches, Bar Symon (Concourse C) has burgers and pierogis, and there’s a Starbucks near gate C22 plus Potbelly Sandwich Shop near gate C28 if you’re parked at the high gates. Typical concession hours run early morning through the evening rush — the airport’s restaurants generally open around 5:00 AM — but hours shift seasonally, so don’t promise the kids a specific restaurant until you’ve checked.

Bring a reusable water bottle: CLE added bottle fillers inside the security checkpoints, and every checkpoint area has them.

Security Tips for Families

  • Arrive two hours early for domestic flights — security, bathroom breaks, and snack stops all take longer with kids.
  • Formula, breast milk, and juice for toddlers are allowed through TSA in reasonable quantities above the 3-1-1 limit; tell the officer before the bins go in and they’ll screen them separately.
  • Strollers go through the X-ray belt — fold them at the checkpoint. Baby carriers are screened separately.
  • Pick your checkpoint by concourse. The South checkpoint (typically open 3:15 AM–7:45 PM) sits closest to Concourse C; Central (typically 4:15 AM–10:00 PM) serves Concourse B. Full details on our CLE TSA wait times page.

Unaccompanied Minors and Guest Passes

If your child is flying alone, each airline at CLE runs its own unaccompanied-minor program with different age cutoffs and fees — check with your airline directly before booking, since the rules vary. If you’d rather walk a young traveler to the gate yourself, CLE’s Hopkins Hangout Pass lets non-ticketed guests request access to the secure side: apply at least 24 hours (but no more than a week) ahead, passes are capped at 100 per day, and minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Getting In and Out with Kids

For drop-offs and pickups, the departure and arrival curbs get congested at peak times — the cell phone lot is the free way to wait until your party is at the curb. If you’re parking, the Smart Parking Garage keeps you covered and closest to the terminal, which matters in a Cleveland winter with small kids. Compare the full options on our CLE parking guide.

Make Your CLE Journey Easier with AirportGo

AirportGo is built for the whole airport journey — before, during, and after your flight. Before you fly, use the packing checklist and trip tasks to get organized (a family packing list with snacks, wipes, and an extra outfit beats remembering everything at 5:00 AM). During your trip, search the directory for gates, food, restrooms, and ATMs, get step-by-step walking navigation through the terminal, check TSA checkpoint times, and set a parking reminder so your spot is saved. After you land, the find-my-car feature uses your saved parking photo and location to walk you back to your vehicle. It even works offline, so a weak airport signal won’t slow you down. The app is available now on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
